The Coastal Carolina Eyecare Alliance was created over the last 5 years by eye care providers who witnessed, first-hand, the inherent issues that are driving the elevated costs associated with providing vision care.  We were introduced to model of vision care that has proven to be successful in many other states and wanted to bring this proven model to South Carolina.
Therefore, we have created a network that offers controlled access to vision care, which results in a reduction of costs and provides better outcomes for our patients.

Primarily, we solve two critical issues that healthcare plans face:
    1) overutilization; and
    2) difficulty in reporting measures, which affects the plans’     reimbursement rates.
Our network saves the plans on utilization and drives up their reimbursements. Utilization is controlled not through the denial of care, but by our enhancing and maximizing the optometrist’s role as the “gatekeeper”, who determines if and when patients need to utilize the services of a “downstream” (secondary- or tertiary-care) provider.

Then through network management, we can handle the health plans' cleanup of claims and reporting of measures, which ultimately affects their ratings that determine their reimbursements.

In our practice, we constantly seek out “win-win” opportunities – those that are good for our patients, good for our staff, and good for the practice.  The CCEA provides a scenario where “all ships rise”.  Patients experience higher-quality vision care, providers can enjoy increased patient volume and monetary success, and health care plans save money and increase their reimbursements!
